BATHOU BWSWN | बाथो बोसोन: The Bathou religion is the traditional religion of the Bodo community. The holy word Bathou is composed of two words 'Ba' (five) and 'Thou' (deep) Which together refer to the five principles or elements.

The Bathou religion is based on the five principles or elements which are Ha (Earth), Dwi (Water), Baar(Air), Orr(Fire), and Okhrang (Sky). These elements are the five powers of Bwrai Bathou, Which represent the five vital elements of nature.

The Bathou followers Worship Bwrai Bathou as the supreme God. The Word 'Bwrai' means 'Lord' and so, Bwrai Bathou means the supreme God Who is the Lord of the five principles. The Sijou plant is the symbol of the Bwrai Bathou.

The Sijou plant is usually planted in the middle of the Bathou altar and is surrounded by a round fence of small bamboo stripes folded in five fastenings that signify the powers of the five basic principles or elements.
