Tangla, 06 Jan 2023: Savarkar Hindutva joined the Hindu Mahasabha, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Essentials of Hindutva is an ideological epigraph by Vinayak Damodar Savarkar published in 1923. It was retitled Hindutva: Who Is a Hindu? when reprinted in 1928. Savarkar's epigraph forms part of the canon of works published during British rule that later influenced post-independence contemporary Hindu nationalism.
Savarkar joined the Hindu Mahasabha and popularized the term Hindutva (Hinduness), previously coined by Chandranath Basu, to create a collective "Hindu" identity as an essence of Bharat (India). Savarkar was an atheist but a pragmatic practitioner of Hindu philosophy.
The man largely credited with the invention of the concept of Hindutva—literally 'Hinduness'—is Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (1883–1966), whose Essentials Of Hindutva (Bombay: Veer Savarkar Prakashan, 1st edition 1923) laid out the concept in 1923.
The word Hindutva was already in use by the late 1890s by Chandranath Basu, and later the national figure Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
Chandranath Basu (1844-1910) was a Bengali litterateur. A staunch Hindu, Chandranath coined the term Hindutva and has been regarded as a doyen of economic nationalism in Bengal.
So, Sanatan dharma can mean “timeless civilization”. In the Gita, Krishna describes the knowledge he shares as Sanatana, timeless. Hindutva — a word that was invented in the late 19th century by Chandranath Basu — insists it is Sanatan dharma, and so does not need reform.
Shiva is the supreme God and performs all actions, of which destruction is only one. Ergo, the Trimurti is a form of Shiva Himself for Shaivas. Shaivites believe that Lord Shiva is the Supreme, who assumes various critical roles and assumes appropriate names and forms, and also stands transcending all these.
