The All Bodo Students Union, PJACBM, and NDFB (P) & (R) once again have taken the path of democratic agitation by organizing a mega People’s Gathering at Udangshrini Alari Premsing Brahma Memorial Playground.

More than 100,000 movement activists from Chirang and Kokrajhar and across the state of Assam attended the mega peoples gathering that created the human floods in the venue of the event.

The protester created a sort of thunderstorm by shouting slogans demanding a new state of Bodoland for the exploited, deprived, and marginalized indigenous communities of Assam.

Mr. Pramod Boro, President, of a powerful student organization, All Bodo Students Union, said “More than 5000 brothers and sisters have sacrificed their lives for this cause. Hundreds have been brutally raped. 25000 movement activists have been illegally imprisoned. For the last 40 years, despite facing the cruel forces of the state and ruling cliché, we have been relentlessly fighting for this cause through democratic and peaceful means.

I would like to ask Prime Minister and the Home Minister of India, how many more lives will we have to sacrifice? How many more peace-loving activists will have to face imprisonment? Many new states have been created under articles 2 and 3 of the Indian constitution, why cannot Bodoland be created?” 

To this end, ABSU President announced a series of movements such as Mass gatherings in October, the National Highway Blockade, Railway Blockades, Mega Rally in Delhi in November, the civil disobedience movement, etc. He also reiterated the protection of land, culture, language, and identity through the lasting solution of the Bodoland issue.

The mega peoples’ gathering was attended by hundreds of distinguished leaders such as Mr. U.G. Brahma, former MP (RS), Mr. SK Bwisumuthiari, Former MP, Mr. Gobinda Basumatary, General Secretary, NDFB (P), Mr. Rakesh Boro, Chief Convener, PJACBM, Mr. B. Anjalu, General Secretary, NDFB (R) and others. 

Many speakers stressed protecting the tribal belts and blocks through the creation of a separate state of Bodoland as the successive government in Assam has directly and indirectly facilitated encroachment into the tribal land, identity and culture. The gathering vowed to carry forward the Bodoland movement with much more fervor until it is achieved.
