A computer is an electronic device that manipulates information or data. It has the ability to store, retrieve, and process data. You may already know that you can use a computer to type documents, send emails, play games, and browse the Web.

an electronic machine that can store, find and arrange information, calculate amounts and control other machines,

On the basis of data handling capabilities, there are three types of computers which are Analogue Computers, Digital Computers, and Hybrid Computers.

1.   Analog computer, any of a class of devices in which continuously variable physical quantities, such as electrical potential, fluid pressure, or mechanical motion, are represented in a way analogous to the corresponding quantities in the problem to be solved.

Examples of analog devices:

Vinyl records and record players. CRT (cathode ray tube) televisions and monitors. VCR (video cassette recorder) players and tapes. Any clock without a digital display.

2.   Digital describes electronic technology that generates, stores, and processes data in terms of two states: positive and non-positive. Positive is expressed or represented by the number 1 and non-positive by the number 0. Thus, data transmitted or stored with digital technology is expressed as a string of 0's and 1's.

Example:

In computer science, a digital electronic computer is a computer machine that is both an electronic computer and a digital computer. Examples of digital electronic computers include the IBM PC, the Apple Macintosh as well as modern smartphones.

3.  A computer system consisting of a combination of analog and digital computer systems is called Hybrid Computer.

Examples of Hybrid Computers:

Gasoline Station. The fuel vending machine at a gas station measures the amount of fuel via analog technology and displays the information regarding cost in digital form. ...
Electrocardiogram Machine. ...
Ultrasound Machine. ...
Monitoring Machine. ...
Research and Production Industries. ...
Forensic. ...
