What is the Diwali? India's biggest and most important holiday of the year., Speech by Kajal Sah. Diwali is the five-day Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains across the world. Diwali, which for some also coincides with harvest and new year celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

Diwali, or Dipawali, is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects them from spiritual darkness.

During this festival, people decorate their homes with lights and oil lamps, called diyas. 4) For many people, Diwali honors the Hindu goddess of wealth, Lakshmi. The lights and lamps are said to help Lakshmi find her way into peoples' homes, bringing prosperity in the year to come!

Diwali (also called Divali or Deepavali) is a “festival of lights” that celebrates the triumph of light over dark and good over evil, and the blessings of victory, freedom, and enlightenment. The name comes from Sanksrit Deepavali, meaning “row of lights.”

Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The lights of Diwali signify a time to destroy all our dark desires and thoughts, eradicated dark shadows and evils, and give us the strength and the zeal to carry on with our goodwill for the rest of the year.

Diwali is celebrated by multiple faiths

Diwali is celebrated by multiple faiths. Every year around October and November, Hindus around the world celebrate Diwali, or Deepavali—a festival of lights that stretches back more than 2,500 years.

For Diwali, the lighting of fireworks is interpreted as a way to ward off all evil spirits as well as add to the festive mood. In addition, this ritual may also be linked to the tradition of paying respect to ancestors.

Flowers are beautifully employed in balconies, walls, patios, or terraces. The thali of Diwali Puja is also decorated with fresh-cut flowers, so also the floating candles in a tub of water with rose petals. Therefore it is rightly said, that without flowers Diwali celebrations are incomplete.

Diwali begins with the first day known as 'Dhanteras' or the worship of wealth. Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on this day and there is a custom to purchase something precious. People clean and decorate their homes.
