Chhath is an ancient Hindu Vedic festival historically native to the Indian subcontinent, more specifically, the Indian states of Bihar, and, Jharkhand and the southern parts of Nepal, and it has become popular with the Nepali hilly community in recent years, thanks to the influence of the southern immigrants.

यहां पर व्रती ना तो नदी और ना ही तालाब में अर्घ्य देते हैं, बल्कि एक कुएं में छठ पूजा होती है. पौराणिक कहानी के अनुसार रांची के नगड़ी गांव में स्थित इस कुंए के पास पांडवों की पत्नी द्रौपदी सूर्य देव की उपासना के साथ ही अर्घ्य भी दिया करती थीं.
