 Ans: The author found a roll-top desk in a junk shop. 

2. What did he find in a secret drawer? Who do you think had put in a there? 

Ans: The author found a small black tin box in a secret drawer. I think the owner of the roll top desk might have put there.

1. Who had written the letter, to whom, and when? 

Ans: Mrs. Jim John Macpherson, a captain in the British army had written the letter, his wife Connie, On 26 December 1914.

 2. Why was the letter written – what was the wonderful thing that had happened? 

Ans: The letter describes a wonderful event. The two armies-the British and the German-fighting against each other celebrated Christmas together. 

3. What jobs did Hans Wolf and Jim Macpherson have when they where not soldiers?

 Ans: Hans wolf was from Dusseldorf. He played the cello in the orchestra. Jim Macpherson was a school teacher from Dorset in the west of England. 

4.  Had Hans Wolf ever been to Doset? Why did he say he knew it?

 Ans: No, Hans Wolf had ever been to Dosert. He had learned all about England from school and from reading books in English.
